Commit For Life

Today was our school’s blood drive and I happened to be the chair of the event. After a few hectic weeks of planning, I believe today was a success.  Our entire senior class is away. We managed to almost have the same amount of donors when our senior class was present.

42 pints of blood were drawn today.  Approximately 126 adult lives, or up to 840 premature babies are going to survive because of our help.

Today, I also set a record at my school.  It is the first time that we have held 3 blood drives in one year.  Because of this, we received $400 donated to our student government, customized blood drive t-shirts, and a chance to go to Methodist Hospital to view an open heart surgery (not to sure if I can handle that).

Ironically, the chairman of the blood drive (me) did not donate blood.  I was not eligible - did not meet the weight requirements and my doctor suggested that I hold off from giving.   I do however, feel obligated to take a major role in helping out.  Before I was born, my mother was internally bleeding and would of most likely of passed if she had not received a blood transfusion.  Thankfully, she did.
