The Importance of ‘Showing Up’

Today was election day in my BBYO (a Jewish youth organization that I am involved in) chapter. Aside from elections, I had a pretty filled up day

In the morning I planned a community service project with my school and, of course, I gladly attended. Followed by that, I choose to go to my friends sweet sixteen birthday brunch. Then came a choice I had to make of either playing tennis, completing homework, or attending the elections.

Elections are always a very long, ‘boring’ process. It usually takes 3 hours. Definitely not time efficient. I was, however, running for treasure but you are allowed to run and not be there. So I decided to risk my one vote and complete homework followed by a quick break of playing tennis.

I get a text message during tennis saying that I got into a run off and lost. If I (and my best friend who I was playing tennis with) were to be present during the elections, I would of most likely won the election with no runoff. Tough luck - it was definitely not a set-back for me.
