Thank you! It is amazing what Facebook can do..
This post is dedicated to all the great people that help me immensely with my ventures, specifically business/technology related! Daivd Hornik, Marc Nathan, David Cohen, Mark Schmulen, Dick Costolo, Seth Levine, Jared Polis, Phillip Gordon, and many more. Thank you so much for all that you guys do! You are all both mentors, educators, and friends to me.
I would like to especially thank two people. Josh Tabin and Albert Wenger.
Josh has been working with me very closely. He has been and continues to be a great help. We have met several times in person and go through tons of email messages. I know he wants me to succeed in building my first company as much as I do.
It is amazing to what Facebook can do. I contacted Albert via Facebook message in late September of 2007. I wanted to engage in a telephone conversation to increase my knowledge of start-ups due to the fact that I am in the process of trying to start one myself. Albert gladly accepted my request and we spoke later that week. I still have the notes I took from that conversation: “You need to be brave when starting a company! This will be worthwhile in the long-run”. That was one quote Albert stated that I have found to be very true. Sending him a message asking him for a few minutes of his time and then speaking to him on the phone was definitely not easy. I had courage, a ‘nothing to loose’ mindset.
It will be worthwhile in the long run.. I have attended summer camp for 8 years and if I were to go back this summer, I would have to be a CIT. I decided against it and wanted to do something better, more worthwhile. Well, in December of 2007, I sent Albert another Facebook message stating that I hope to gain business knowledge and work experience this summer. Would Union Square Ventures have any interest in taking along an intern for a couple of weeks. I wrote a resume (www.corylevy.com/resume) and he had asked me to send it along his way.
I am happy to say that this summer I will make my way up to New York City for 9 days to spend some time at Union Square Ventures. I am really looking forward to the amazing opportunity. Thanks again, Albert!
