On Wednesday, school goes back in session.
I had a great summer! I traveled 2/3rds of my summer and had a blast!
I am writing a reflection paper and will post it in pieces on this blog.
I gave my ‘business card’ to someone I met in New York and received an email saying… “If you get a call from someone that found your card at Newark airport….It’s my fault… Old school social networking (-;”
I have yet to receive a telephone call ;)
For the next 12 days I am going to be in New York. For one week, I am interning at Union Square Ventures. I am really looking forward to this opportunity!
Following my internship, I will be taking a train to the West Hamptons and hanging out with some new friends of mine that I met in Boulder, at my summer study/’SAT’ camp. My two closest friends that I made happen to live out in the Hamptons. So I am extending my trip and am going to be living with them for a couple of days. Should be a blast!
Randy Pausch would be considered a hero to me. I look up to him and his ways of living life. Unfortunaly, he passed away yesterday. My heart is with his family. I will never forget the lessons learned from his “Last Lecture”:

I am currently taking an SAT and business/marketing class at the University of Colorado in Boulder for three weeks. So far, it has been really fun! I have never gotten this much lack of sleep in my life. I have been sleeping between 3-6hrs a day. On an average summer day in Houston, I get between 7-10hrs.
In my business class, our final project is to create a ‘start-up’ (my teacher doesn’t use that term but it is essentially what she means ;) from scratch. In one sentence, my company is going to make walking around campuses suck less. More to come later.
Randy Pausch is one of my heroes. He is a professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2006, he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Randy achieved worldwide fame for his “Last Lecture” speech given in mid September of 2007.
From his book, I picked up several lessons that will be remembered for a long time (and hopefully implemented throughout my years). Pausch states: “the simplest yet most powerful things humans can do for each other…showing gratitude.” Hand written thank-you notes is a great way to show gratitude. ”If you are a B+ student, your handwritten thank-you note will raise you at least a half-grade in the eyes of a future boss or admissions officer. You’ll become an ‘A’ to them.”
I recently interned in Boulder for a week. A year ago, I would of never imagined that I would be spending time at TechStars and a small amount at the Foundry Group.
I immediately thought of Randy Pausch when I booked my flight up to Boulder. After the internship, I was sitting in the airport writing thank-you notes. I was proud of myself for showing my gratitude, however, still think I can do better next time. I wrote those thank-you notes still in Boulder, however, did not send them out till a week later. (Long story short, I am doing a Summer Study/SAT camp right now and could not find a mail box.) Still inexcusable :)
